Highlights for this week

A great week in grade 2!
It was wonderful seeing many of you on program night. If you were not able to make it for program night, please check your child's bag for a package. There is information about the grade 2 program included. I also sent home the passwords and instructions for Raz-Kids on Friday. This is a great program for your child to practice reading fluency and comprehension.

Thank you to those parents that have provided headphones for your children. If you haven't done so already, please send in headphones this week as we will be logging into the chromebooks.

Here are some highlights of the week:

In Language, we are learning to retell a story in sequence from beginning to end.

The students will use the Shape Go Map to help them orally retell the story of the Three Little Pigs. Feel free to use this visual at home. Ask your child to retell the story as they refer to the visual.

In Math, we are working on representing patterns in different ways.

Dear parent or guardian: This is a summary of the key ideas your child is learning in mathematics. You can use this summary as background as you support your child’s work.

Representing Patterns

Numbers can be represented in different ways:

Similarly, patterns can be represented in different ways too. The different ways might involve switching from numbers to shapes or actions.

For example, the number pattern 7, 10, 13, 16, … can also be represented in these ways:

Hop 7 times, hop 10 times, hop 13 times, hop 16 times, …

Helping Your Child

Take opportunities to draw your child’s attention to visual or sound patterns, and ask your child what number pattern is the same as the pattern they see or hear.

For example, you might clap once, then three times, then five times, then seven times, and your child could say, 1, 3, 5, 7, … .
