Our first week back and looking forward

We have had a busy first week back to school.  I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know your children. They are a wonderful group!

Some upcoming reminders for September:

September 11th - Program Evening - 6:00 - 7:30 pm
September 27th - Terry Fox Walk

Thank you so much for completing all of the paperwork that has gone home. If you have not done so, please ensure that the paperwork is completed and returned at your earliest convenience. Also, thank you so much for the kleenex boxes and large ziploc bags. They are already coming in great use!!

This week, the students have participated in various activities such as 'Do You Like....'   Such activities help the students get to know eachother and feel comfortable with one another. We will continue to learn classroom and school routines.

We also learned about our Religious Symbol in grade 2. Please feel free to ask your child why The Chalice was chosen as the grade 2 symbol.

We had a discussion about the artwork on the cover of our Religion text book. This is a symbol of the chalice. The students are currently working on their own chalice creation. In addition to the chalice, we have discussed many other  important religious symbols. Many of them are included on our relgion table.

In Math, we just began our unit on Patterning. We will be working on this unit for a few weeks. The students  have been investigating growing, shrinking and repeating patterns. Check out our anchor chart. Have your child answer the questions:

We had LOTS of fun making patterns using EMOJI's. Check out some of our partner work:

Here are some shape patterns that we worked on:

In Language, the children have been busy writing about themselves. You will be able to view our 'All About Me' bulletin board when you come in for Program Night. During written tasks, the students are reminded to begin each new sentence with an uppercase letter and end with a punctuation mark. We will be spending some time on sentence structure over the next while.

Today the students received a bookmark to include in their class reading book bags, which will remain at school. The following are strategies that the kids will be learning to assist with reading fluency. Please feel free to use these strategies at home with your child.
