UPDATES FOR WEEK OF APRIL 13

Hello Parents,

I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter.

A few updates for this week:

  • Our google chats will remain on Tuesdays at 10:30am each week. I have sent an invitation to your children. Some of them have already accepted the invitation, which is great! Looking forward to seeing all of the kids again tomorrow morning.

  • Change in work for the week - I have sent your children an email explaining that a guideline for work of the week will be accessed through your childs Hapara account. Their Hapara account is found in their student portal (see the following icon).

Hapara icon

Once they get into their HAPARA account, there is a folder named WORKSPACE and that is where they will find their work. Once their work is completed, they simply hit the SUBMIT button. I am hoping that this will make things easier!

Again, please feel free to email me if you have further questions.

Happy Easter Images, Stock Photos & Vectors | Shutterstock

Hello Parents,

I wanted to share a package with you that the children
could enjoy over the long weekend in their free time.
It includes Easter activities.
Feel free to print off anything of interest.

I would like to thank you for all of your patience
and support during this time. It was great
to see and chat with the students on our
google chat. We will continue to have a weekly
chat. However, the times may sometimes change.
I will send an invite to the kids each week to confirm
the day and time.

I would like to take this time to wish each of you
a Happy Easter and a wonderful long weekend.

Hello Parents,

I sent home the following note through your email (one email per family) on April 1st. I also sent a note to your child to their email. If you require your son or daughters username and password, please let me know. Thank you to those of you that responded. If you did not receive the following notes, please let me know at
rosetta.vena@ocsb.ca .

Thank you so much,
Mrs. Vena

Note to Parents:
Hello Parents,
I hope that you are all doing well. It was great to hear from you and to speak to some of you. I would like to continue to keep the lines of communication open during this time. In our next phase (beginning next week), we will be slowly introducing some academics, with a focus on Math and Language. At this point, I am not exactly sure how that will look. I will take it one week at a time. Also, I am aware that this is a difficult time for all of us. Please only do what you can, no pressure!!
As a first step, I would like to have a conference using Google Meet with all of the children, if possible. The children will have an opportunity to see and chat with one another. This will happen later next week. I will have to confirm a day and time in the near future.
As a first step, the children will have to learn how to log into their email accounts. Most of the students have memorized their logins, as they are used to logging into their chromebooks at school on a daily basis. If your child needs their logins, please email me and I will send you their computer username and passwords.
Later this afternoon, I will send the children a message to their school email account. By responding to my email, I will know that the kids have accessed their email account. I am aware that some of you are in need of devices. The principal is aware of this and is awaiting details for next steps. Also, as a staff, we are going to book conferences at different days and times so that your children have more of a chance to access a device at home.
. My hopes are to send you a weekly email with overall expectations for the week and questions to guide the children. In time, if the children are able to effectively make use of their emails, we could explore further options. For now, we will take this one step at a time. Please continue to use available apps on our class Blog and various links sent, to review various concepts in Math and Language.
Please feel free to contact me through email if you require further assistance,
Rosetta Vena :0)

Note to my students:

Hello grade 2's!

I miss you all soooo much. I hope that you are all doing well. I know that things are really different right now, but it's important that we stay home so that we all stay safe and healthy.
I have been spending a lot of time with my family. I try to go outside everyday to get some fresh air. I am so happy that the snow is slowly melting.

I have been working hard to learn more about computer stuff so that we could see each other on a program called google meet. I hope that we could do that later next week.

So, now I want you to respond to my email and tell me what you have been doing.
Feel free to write to me anytime!!

Can't wait to hear from you all!!
Miss you all soooooooo much,
Mrs. Vena

First Communion Information

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

On behalf of Father Scott, we are sending out this letter to all of the families who have registered their children for First Communion at St. Augustine Parish.  The Sacraments had been scheduled for April and May. However, as you all know, restrictions have been placed on the Church during the Coronavirus outbreak. We do not yet know when we will be able to fully regain access to the Church.  We await information from Public Health. As we hear more, we will share that information with you but, for now, the dates that had previously been scheduled are postponed.

Sincerely,

The Sacramental (First Communion) Preparation Team

A message from Father Scott

Dear Families,

Blessings from Father Scott.

Sacramental Preparation:
The Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation that had been scheduled for April and May have been postponed as we await further information from Public Health regarding full access to our Church.
Sunday Offerings:
As you know, with Church Masses being cancelled, St. Augustine Parish has been losing Sunday collections and the situation may potentially go into all of April.  Easter Masses have also been cancelled and this special celebration generates much needed funds for our Church. We realize that the Covid 19 outbreak has placed a financial burden on many families.  If you are still able to help, parishioners are invited to make an offering and leave it in the parish mailbox which Father Scott checks regularly. If you prefer, donations may also be mailed to the Church at:
1060 Baseline Rd.
Ottawa, ON
K2C 0A6
Holy Week:
Private Easter Mass will be held at St. Augustine Parish.  Father Scott is trying to get set up for a “live stream” video link for parishioners.  More information will be made available to our school community as we hear from Father Scott on this initiative.
There are many other television sites available should you wish to view Mass during this time.  Here is a list provided by Father Scott:
  • channel 25 vision TV
  • Salt and light (free) chan. 240
Please keep in mind that the Parish website will continue to be updated by

The Mass times for Holy Week are as follows:
Palm Sunday - April 5 at 9:00 am (blessed palms will be available at the Church entrance, south)
Holy Thursday - April 9 at 8:00 pm
Good Friday - April 10 at 3:00 pm
Holy Saturday (Easter Vigil) - April 11 at 8:00 pm
Easter Sunday - April 12 at 9:00 am

As mentioned, Father Scott is hoping to be able to bring these Masses to you virtually. Any changes to these times will be indicated on the Church website at the web address listed above.
